How To Improve Your Alexa Traffic Rank – Testing on This Site

November 4, 2007 by Lisa Stewart 16 Comments

I have tried this on a few sites and without fail all of the sites Alexa ranking went up significantly. I am going to try here.
I have just moved the site over to this sever as well as revamped an energized it in last month … so will be a good opportunity.

One of the techniques used to manipulate Alexa traffic ranking is placing the Alexa Traffic Rank button on your site. I have no REAL evidence that it works. I know that sites I placed the tool on went up- but that could be any number of factors.

Get Better Alexa Rankings

Looks like this:

At the time of this posting, November 4, 2007 the Alexa ranking is 1,508,140 . And yes, this is a crappy number, especially for a site that is owned by a site owner specializes in rankings. I neglected this domain for a long time and then moved it and basically starting from scratch. Will be a good opportunity to implement techniques and see how they are working in real time.

Why should you care about Alexa? I am not sure if you should, but I know some advertisers do- so at worst you should be aware of its existence and its impact. Alexa is supposed to measure traffic to your site. Not what kind or targeted just plain traffic. Some advertisers think that more traffic is always better. As value is a perception and not a real thing then a good ranking in Alexa can mean more money for you.

I have found than you can manipulate and get a higher Alexa ranking if the Alexa’s developer widget, Alexa Traffic Ranking tool is installed. You can get your own here: http://www.alexa.com/site/site_stats/signup. Takes about 2 minutes or less to do.

Put up an Alexa rank widget on my website. I did this a few days ago and receive a fair amount of clicks every day. each click counts as a visit even if the toolbar is not used by the visitor.

    Hi,

I just wonder how much the alex rank is worth? What i have heard its only worth anything if you planning to sell your site? Most people don’t use the bar and most people don’t care about alexa rank. At least that what I thought:)

Having a great Alexa ranking is all well and good, but how much value is it really worth?

Google PR and Technorati ranking carry far more weight online than Alexa. This is because Alexa can be easily manipulated. Great for ego-trips and showing off to your friends.

I agree with Technology Guide — Google PR, Yahoo SiteRank and Technorati ranking carry far more weight online than Alexa does.

I would not spend too much time trying to “manually” increase alexa rankings. Keep on posting great content and rankings will follow. (You’re already doing faboulos job with your blog)

if the widget does report traffic data to alexa, your traffic will surely go up, and it is an indication that not all your visitors have alexa toolbar.

here are some recent reports that widgets work

My blog went from 500,000 to 120,000 after installing the widget. But I am not sure whether the sole reason is installing the alexa widget. Within the first 3 months there should be a significant improve of the rank anyway. This was the first 3 months of the site and I have seen lot of bloggers claim to get good results after using alexa buttons.

I’ve installed the widget and for the past week or so have not received any sort of boost in my rankings…I’ve also added the alexa toolbar and have made my website (http://meganfox.delightfulmodels.net) my homepage so that it can track it…so far no luck though

If you surf the web a lot and have the toolbar installed, why wouldn’t your traffic rank go up? The traffic is you! It is especially important not to install the toolbar if you are in the process of building a website. You send in your pages through ftp and then you preview. This goes back and forth until the site is done. Alexa will put a block on your ip address.

Traffic is easily manipulated with the toolbar. It’s really unreliable.

Removing that badge would actually help. Increasing Alexa ranking is more keeping alexa in a doubt about your actualy no of viewers.

Getting the Alexa toolbar and visiting your site frequently is the best way. Some countries like India is where alexa is weak, so visits from these countries count more towards your ranking as Alexa gives unduly more weightage to them.

When I started checking Alexa rank for my site “www.investorschoolindia.com”, it was more than 12,800,000. After installing the Alexa traffic button, now the rank has improved a lot to around 2,200,000.

But like you said there is no guarantee that it works.
