What Are WidgetBucks? What is a Widgetbuck???

You may have seen this term popping up on blogs all over the place,
WidgetBucks
or cutesy ad blocks or banners like this:

Earn $$ with WidgetBucks!

Widgetbuck is a new online advertising company that publishers are clamouring to in the past few weeks. I suspect largely in part because you get and immediate 25.00 sign-up bonus just for joining. (I remember when PayPal began you got 20.00 for joining and 20.00 for referrer… and that worked out pretty well..)

They are also not contextual so.. Can you use Widgetbucks and Google Adsense on the same page? Yes. (at least at the time of this writing- if you are unsure please check Google’s Terms of Service)

The widget actually builds very similar to the way an Amazon product ad does. However unlike Amazon you get money for clicks- not for a purchase. You can specify products to feature; i.e. have the ads show products from a pre-set Topic and Category. i was quite surprised at the variety of products and also the quality.

How To Set Up WidgetBucks

For example, You can choose topic “Electronics” and choose one topic from DVD Players, MP3 Players, Mp3 Accessories, etc . You then can choose a size- and they don’t really have “small” size.. They sizes are familiar- leaderboard, large 468×60 banner and a 250×250 square, etc. You can then choose the colours you want and how often to rotate product. I find anything less then 5 seconds annoying.

For the Widgetbuck ad below I have picked “Electronic: category and “Satellite Radio receiver” topic and then large rectangle size 300×250 pixels, red as color for it and named the widget. You can also use contextualized version but I am sure this violates Adsense TOS.

It is worth a try, I set up recently – I popped one in to one of my better posts and it was very topic relevant, Currently I make about 20.00 day from Amazon on the post and about 2.00 /day from Adsense. I don’t think it can surpass the Amazon numbers but might do a lot better than the Adsense there before. It is god for posts where you want to fine tune your ads- hard to do with Adsense and probably better money than Amazon. They also have a decent referral program.
I know that Widgetbucks had some problem early on in their first weeks with codes and load time and that has apparently been fixed.
