Context Link Advertising: Which Is Better Kontera or Chitika?
Since Google Adsense lifted it’s ban on other contextualized advertising I have been looking more closely at other types of revenue for my blogs.
I have been experimenting with both Kontera and Chitika (Lynx) which are both context link advertising companies. You may have seen them popping up more and more. Most people find them irritating. I use them on sites that are more resource based then readership based i.e. where people are coming to the site and landing on a specific page like “convert Celsius to Fahrenheit tool” rather than a blog where I am establishing a loyal readership- like this one. When trying to get reader to return to your sire or subscribe to your site- annoying them is not a good idea.
This is what they typically look like:

They are also very useful for sites where you have a broad base of topics and Adsense is all over the place and your CTR isn’t budging and very low. Forums are an ideal candidate for using context link ads and one worth trying- you can always tell forum users you are experimenting for a week to see how it goes and gauge reaction OR set up in vbulletin that the script would be disabled in subscriber view… but that’s another post.
I find both Kontera and Chitika easy to install and so far about the same amount of revenue. Where Kontera heavily edges out Chitika however is the ability to block ads on certain content or posts.
You cannot stop Chitika ads from appearing on specific posts or content. This is a major obstacle for me. Some post I don’t find appropriate to put in these ads. Also- when using PayPerPost you cannot have any other ads in your post. I have not done any PayPerPost posting for a while now but I know others have com across this problem
Once you have the Chitika script in place ( simply a matter pasting code in open body tags- typically in footer) the ads will appear..whenever.
With Kontera you can stop Ads from appearing by using one of several wordpress plugins available.
How Do you Stop Kontera Ads from Appearing In a Post?
Kontera Wordpress Plugins
There are several worpdress plugin for Kontera. I have tried the wordpress plugin for on Kontera site, Kontera Wordpress Plugin and Kontera ContentLinks Wordpress Plugin and Kontera Integration plugin.
I am happy with the Kontera Integration plugin. , does what it says it will do- which is all I ask from a plug-in. You can set the plugin to automatically put in Kontera ads OR not then manually add/remove from each post depending on the default you chose. You can also chose color of your links as well as disable Kontera links from appearing in your headers ( yikes!) , Ease of us VERY EASY.
