The DoFollow Directory- Why Follow and Add Your Site?

dofollow directory logo
I have been experimenting with easy (- ish) way for sites to build valuable content. On of the tools is using a link directory script to create different types of directories. I have added The DoFollow Directory. The directory is for blogs that follow- blogs that allow links/URLs in comment section of blog to be followed by search engines. By default Wordpress and other blog software add nofollow tags to any links contained in a comment. Most bloggers are unaware of this. The function was set up with good intentions- to discourage spam.

However, there are so many sophisticated spam plugins now that it really isn’t necessary.
Blogs that have disabled the nofollow function are called dofollow blogs. If your site allows comments posted by bloggers to have a link back to their site, etc in their post. When you have a dofollow site add your blog to The DoFollow Directory- of course links are followed!

Why be A DoFollow Blog?

You can “reward” bloggers who comment on yor site- adding value to your blog- by allow their link to stand and pass on page rank to their site. Being a dofollow blog will help your traffic. It also is good blogging etiquette.

How Do I become a Dofollow Blog?

Do off the nofollow function in your blog software, It will take you 2 minutes. Download a dofollow plugin, I like this one
Andy Beard has put together a fantastic list of plugins for dofollow sites. He also began a Bumpzee community for dofollow sites and be sure to add you site there.

Let Others Know You Follow

Add your site to The DoFollow Blog Directory
Join the Bumpzee DoFollow community
Add a dofollow logo to your site.
Post about your decision to follow.
Create a page explaining dofollow movement.
Encourage comments.

You spam catchers (m Aksismet, etc )will catch most spammy comments. Dofollow bloggers do not keyword stuff their post. Most likley they will leave an on topic relevant post with a link to their own site in the name/url section.

Links to watch out for will have multiple urls stiffed into their post and the url they have in the name/url field will link to a site something like ringtones/Viagra/xxx site. Just mark them off to spam. The may bit be so obvious so take a quick look at the URL they have submitted.

I am pretty free with allowing comments. I tend to not allow ” nice post!” types comments however as they do not add value to my site and no thought has gone into them. If the post is relevant or adds value to my post and blog I go ahead and allow.

How Do You Add Google Adsense Code to a .tpl file?

Working with some template files (.tpl ) files this week and came across problem with Google Adsense code not showing up.

AdSense Code Not showing Up?

My Adsense code was not showing up when I pasted into some .tpl files
.I knew I was supposed to do something but took me a bit to figure out. The answer was pretty straight forward, need to add literal tags. Literal tags prevent a section of the template from being parsed, placing the contents directly into the template.
Basically- this is all you need to know:

{literal}
ADSENSE CODE HERE
{/literal}

You can open up the .tpl file in notepad or edit in your ftp client as well.

List Of Sites That “Follow”

Add Your Blog to “The DoFollow Directory

I took sometime and put up the list Courtney Tuttle compiled, of “D-List” sites, sites that have added the dofollow plugin and allow links in comment section of Wordpress to be followed by search engines.

Take a look at the post, which explains why it a good idea to add the plugin as well as a list of hundred+ sites where you can comment and have your link followed. Also feel free to copy the list- I have made it so you can copy/paste the list into your own site. ( nb: please keep Courtney’s credit and link in place! )

List of sites that Follow The D-List

An excellent resource also is found in the Bumpzee dofollow community spearheaded by the brilliant Andy Beard. There you will find a huge index of blogs of every kind who have turned off nofollow tags in their comments section.

Feel free to add your name to list. You can comment here in comments section on this blog and I’ll add or email me with your info, using form below.

How to Get Back Your Google Page Rank- Request For Reconsideration

How do I make a request to Google for reconsideration of my site?

Have you decided that your page rank IS important to you? It might be if that is key factor in attracting advertisers to your site.

If you have been using PayPerPost, Text Link Ads or Text Link Brokers and your formally healthy page rank is gone and you now have page rank zero, then you most likely have a penalty. it is fairly easy to have penalty removed and have some of not all of your PR restored by Google.

Steps To Getting Your Page Rank Restored By Google

1. Add nofollow tags to perceived paid links ( i.e. PPP blog posts). Instruction for add no follow tags to your posts. I would not outright delete your PayPerPost posts as they add content your your site. You can also flat out get rid of the active link in post.

2. Get rid of Text Link Ad scripts and remove Text Link Broker links. Weight income you get vs. perceived value of your page rank.

3. Add no follow tags to your other paid ads. if you have advertisers who have bought links or buttons, banners, add nofollow tags to their links. Inform advertisers you have done so.

4. Remove any PayPerPost logos, etc.

5. “Blogger Disclosure” you may want to re-word or remove. Some sites actually use an image or graphic of the text.

Go to Google site and request reconsideration. Go Here Sign in with your Google account and add your site. ( they verify you are in fact owner).
State your case. Don’t get emotional or give them sob story. They don;t care,. Just state facts. Tell them what you have done and ask for them to reconsider your page rank. State the you do not have any paid ads on your site. period.

If your site is not included in Google’s search results, and you believe that it does not violate our webmaster guidelines, you can ask Google to reconsider your site for inclusion in the index.

In addition, if you recently purchased a domain that you think may have violated our guidelines before you owned it, you can use the reconsideration request form to let us know that you recently acquired the site and that it now adheres to the guidelines.

To request reconsideration of your site:

1. Sign in to Google Webmaster Tools.
2. Under Tools, click Request reconsideration and follow the steps.
