Show Back/Forward Button in New Version FireFox 3.xx

Took me a couple of seconds to figure this one out- after upgrading to latest version of Firefox the fist thing I noticed was I no longer had a back button for my browser. I use this HEAVILY and can’t believe I am the only one. Not sure why they would remove this function from the navigation toolbar. As is you can go back in FireFox by right clicking mouse and clicking back or do same by clicking Edit menu. What a drag!

Restoring you back button in Firefox is relatively easy and takes about 5 seconds. Go to View->Toolbars-Customize. You will see set of arrows ( back/forward) drag this button to your navigation toolbar and voila!

            1. Wow, that is weird. A friend of mine updated Firefox and the same thing happened. I didn’t think too much of it, figuring he had just deleted the buttons by accident,so I just added his buttons back. Seems like it is not an isolated problem though. I hope it is just a bug and not intentional, because the back/forward buttons are essential.

            2. Honestly, this thing to restoring your back button in Firefox takes the cake ! I know it’s also all about point of view. Anyway, I don’t see great future in Firefox 3.0.

            3. I haven’t noticed the back button disappear at all and always keep Firefox up to date. I am running 3.0.5 and the button was there by default. Good tutorial to link to though if I ever get anyone asking me where the back button has gone.

            4. Hi,

I too am using the 3.0.6 version if friefox. If I want to redo any command I just click the back button of my keyboard. This seems an option for me.

            5. I haven’t noticed anything of the kind; I guess I have it by default as well…Yeah, it may be really annoying to ‘lose’ the back button like that:) but I guess it’s no problem at all - you can get it back to your heart’s desire and, as you can see, with no hassle at all!

            6. Why they would not have the buttons in the default download or update is beyond me! I can’t imagine not having them since I rely on them just as you, so heavily. Thank you for the tutorial in case I need it in the future when I update my browser.

            7. I upgrade my FF 3.x and it’s normal, and I think firefox should add ‘new tab’ button to the tool bar default.

            8. If a browser ever takes away the back button, then that browser will become…inferior. PERIOD!

            10. And re-installed several times. I have seen questions where the browser would not show the buttons but, mine are shown. You just can’t use them like they are disabled or something. The url box lets me access the desired page I type in. It doesn’t drop down with previous url’s I have visited. So I have to type the entire url every time. Please help!!! 10 pts fast !!!

            11. I didn’t notice that the back buttons had gone?

Are you running Mac? Or Windows?

            12. I didn’t noticed anything wrong now with the 3.0.0.7 firefox version in the toolbar with the back button. Maybe was a mistake just in that version.

            13. Strange, I have firefox 3.0.8 recently installed on my corporate laptop (winxp) and there is no back button problem. Also, I have 3.0.6 at home, (fresh install, not upgrade, vista) without any problem. Maybe you upgrade your firefox from 1.5.x version and it gives some compatibility configuration problems. Maybe safari works little more quickly, but it has really different mac interface and maybe not really intuitive understandable. At all, clearly installed firefox have back button and works pretty well.

            14. I always use my right mouse click to go back. Works everytime in all browsers!

            15. There is a good Firefox addon which allows to use mouse gestures instead of clicking back and forward buttons.

            16. I upgrade my FF 3.x and it’s normal, and I think firefox should add ‘new tab’ button to the tool bar default.
