Best Gallery Plugin for WordPress is BY FAR NextGen Gallery

I have been having fun installing galleries on some WordPress blogs this past week. I will admit NextGen Gallery is probably one of the more challenging plugins to install and work with- but very worthwhile. ( Not as bad as the Kimili Flash plugin tho!)
This was not a 30 second download the plugin and upload tho content folder operation. It took me easliy a half hor to get it up and workign properly and even then it is work to get each photo up.
Form and SEO point of veiw you need to make some adjustments to images once they are up.

For example in your NextGen galleries, change the alt text of the image. By default the alt text is name of the file so you alt text will be something like photo1.jpg. Change this to describe your photo is simple English.
A great tip is to make your images linkable.

How to Create Hyper Links For Images in Nex Gen Gallery Plugin for WordPress

This is quite easy although bit time consuming to do- but again very worth it.
When in Gallery there is empty field for description- you can add html here including a link. I will use this to link to a post that is based on the original image.

            1. Lisa I don’t see what the GOOD part is? All it sounds like is hard work and very little benefit??

            2. you would have to modify the plugin itself. I think they have a newer or different plugin that acts that way if you wanna check it out at http://www.wordpress.org

            3. Is there any way that when someone clicks on a picture in my gallery it automatically opens with PicLens instead of just that one picture? And with that, can I remove the “View with PicLens” link? I just wanna clean it up a bit. Thank you for any help!

            4. I have used NextGen Gallery for one of my client to display his logo work. The best part of NextGen Gallery is we can use it as an pop under manu. So no need to creat different pages. Entire gallery can be seen from a single page.

            5. You’re not wrong that it’s complicated to install and configure.

I tried this one out about a year ago, and gave up in frustration.

            6. I’ve played with many gallery plugins myself, Nextgen seems to have the most function. I do find myself having to tweak the code sometimes, which is no good for future upgrades.

            7. Really it’s a nice plugin with more features , but I tried to add it to my wordpress blog , but it was very hard to me to modify , then I deactivate it , I think normal gallery is nice :)
