How To Improve Your Alexa Traffic Rank – Testing on This Site

I have tried this on a few sites and without fail all of the sites Alexa ranking went up significantly. I am going to try here.
I have just moved the site over to this sever as well as revamped an energized it in last month … so will be a good opportunity.

One of the techniques used to manipulate Alexa traffic ranking is placing the Alexa Traffic Rank button on your site. I have no REAL evidence that it works. I know that sites I placed the tool on went up- but that could be any number of factors.

Get Better Alexa Rankings

Looks like this:

At the time of this posting, November 4, 2007 the Alexa ranking is 1,508,140 . And yes, this is a crappy number, especially for a site that is owned by a site owner specializes in rankings. I neglected this domain for a long time and then moved it and basically starting from scratch. Will be a good opportunity to implement techniques and see how they are working in real time.

Why should you care about Alexa? I am not sure if you should, but I know some advertisers do- so at worst you should be aware of its existence and its impact. Alexa is supposed to measure traffic to your site. Not what kind or targeted just plain traffic. Some advertisers think that more traffic is always better. As value is a perception and not a real thing then a good ranking in Alexa can mean more money for you.

I have found than you can manipulate and get a higher Alexa ranking if the Alexa’s developer widget, Alexa Traffic Ranking tool is installed. You can get your own here: http://www.alexa.com/site/site_stats/signup. Takes about 2 minutes or less to do.

List of Google Page Rank Checkers – Checking Your Sites Page Rank Tools

Page Rank Tools and Page Rank Checkers

These are Google Page Rank Checkers that I can recommend- they do what they say they will do. A rare quality in a web tool.

Smart Page Rank

This might be one of the best Page Rank reporting tools I have come across. It list Google page rank from multiple datacenters, give Alexa page rank status, gives age of domain, lists whether the site is listed in DMOZ.org directory and yahoo directory, will also list- fairly accurately- how many of the sites pages are indexed in Google, Yahoo, MSN, AltaVista and All the Web Directories and all that without asking for captcha! ( I am blind in one eye and captchas are PARTICULARLY annoying to me).
One other tool on the site- a backlink checker does something I like- it will check your backlinks- but will also let you check back
links with nofollow attributes. It does not check multiple sites in one shot.

Dig Page Rank This works quite well. Reports from multiple data centers.I like it.

iWeb Tools Page Rank Checker
This is one of the more annoying ones. You are quite likely to get an “insufficient back links” message for no reason.

http://www.checkpagerank.com/ Very Basic. Checks both Alexa and Google, and that’s it.

Internet Explorer 7 Includes “No Phishing” Filter

Phishing Filter is designed to warn you if the website you are visiting might be impersonating a trusted website. Phishing Filter does this by first checking the address of the website you are visiting against a list of website addresses stored on your computer that have been reported to Microsoft as legitimate (“legitimate list”). (…) addresses not on the legitimate list will be sent to Microsoft and checked against a frequently updated list of websites that have been reported to Microsoft as phishing, suspicious, or legitimate websites. (…) the address of the website you are visiting will be sent to Microsoft, together with some standard information from your computer such as IP address, browser type, and Phishing Filter version number. To help protect your privacy, the address information sent to Microsoft is encrypted using SSL and limited to the domain and path of the website. Other information that may be associated with the address, such as search terms, data you entered in forms, or cookies, will not be sent.

Visit Microsoft’s website for more information on its Phishing Filter. http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/safety/technologies/antiphishing/faq.mspx

Check Your Atom and RSS Feed- Validate and test RSS feeds

Not sure if your feeds are working properly? I was surprised to find during a routine check that on one of my blogs- that appeared to be working smoothly- there was a conflict and in fact the feed wasn;t working at all- it just kept returning the main page. At any rate- this handy tools, Feed Validator will not only check that your RSS an Atom feed are working but will make suggestions on how to tweak.
I was surprised at the number of errors it picked up- all for free!
